Rio de Janeiro's Civil Police, through the Delegation for the Defense of Delegated Services (DDSD), launched on Tuesday Operation Free Signal to investigate drug traffickers in the Boogie Woogie community, on Governador Island, in the North Zone of the city. The targets are criminals who maintain the illegal monopoly on internet services in the location.
According to the investigations, the bandits expel regular internet companies from the community and turn residents into captive consumers, with no option to choose authorized providers. Agents are executing eight search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to two clandestine providers and investigated individuals.
The two clandestine providers are under investigation for alleged connections to members of Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP), a criminal faction operating in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The criminals prevent authorized companies from providing internet services to the local population, maintaining illegal control over the signal in the community.
