The European Union will suspend, starting Thursday, imports of beef and poultry from Brazil. The suspension also covers eggs and honey, until the conclusion of an audit that should be concluded on Friday. The deadlines may, however, be longer in the case of beef.
The announcement was made this Monday by the European Commission, which awaits Brazilian guarantees regarding compliance with the sanitary standards of the community bloc. The Commission considers that Brazil has not presented sufficient guarantees about the conformity of its products with European rules against the abusive use of substances.
