"It is inhuman": 96-year-old woman waits over 16 hours for care at the Barreiro emergency department

SIC Notícias1 September 2026 at 12:46

A 96-year-old woman waited over 16 hours for care at the Barreiro Hospital emergency department. The situation was described as inhumane, highlighting the serious failures in the emergency service of that health unit.

The constraints in care more severely affect patients classified with yellow and green wristbands, which represent less urgent cases. These patients are the ones facing the longest queues to be seen.

Healthcare professionals working in that emergency department have been advising patients to use the complaints book as a way to record the problematic situations they experience during care.
