The Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Northeast carried out the first robotic surgery to the spine in Macedo de Cavaleiros. The procedure represents a milestone for the health unit and for medical care in the Northeast Transmontano region.
The intervention used an innovative robotic system that allows surgeons to plan the operation in three dimensions. This 3D planning capability is one of the main advantages of the technology used.
The robotic system also allows for a significant increase in the precision of surgical procedures. This greater precision is particularly important in spine surgeries, where the margin of error is reduced and the proximity of nerve structures requires great accuracy.
The performance of this robotic surgery positions the ULS of the Northeast at the forefront of surgical technology in Portugal, offering patients in the region access to more advanced and safer techniques for spinal treatments.
