Alert at NATO: drones used in a Ukrainian attack on Russia enter Estonian airspace and scramble fighters

SAPO Notícias1 September 2026 at 11:40

Drones used in a Ukrainian attack on Russia entered Estonian airspace, triggering an alert at NATO. The aircraft were flying near the border when they penetrated Estonian territory, according to information released about the incident.

The incursion led NATO to deploy the assets that ensure the Baltic air policing mission. This mission is responsible for monitoring and protecting the airspace of the Baltic countries, which are members of the alliance.

The incident occurs in a context of heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with aerial attacks from both sides becoming increasingly frequent. The accidental entry of drones into a NATO country can have significant diplomatic and military consequences.
