The floods and flash floods that hit Nepal and Tibet have so far caused 955 deaths, according to the newly released toll. The number of missing exceeds 4,400, a figure that continues to rise as rescue operations advance in the devastated areas.
Among the missing are pilgrims and foreign tourists of various nationalities. In particular, there are four Portuguese citizens registered as missing, three in Nepal and one in Tibet.
Emergency teams continue to work in the most affected areas, where the extent of destruction hampers search and rescue efforts. The toll of dead and missing is expected to rise as operations progress in the disaster zones.
