Extreme heat returns and eleven districts under yellow warning

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) will place 11 districts of mainland Portugal under yellow warning on Thursday due to the extreme heat that is forecast.

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach values between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius in the Tagus Valley, Lower Beira and Alentejo regions, values significantly above the seasonal average.

The risk of rural fire will be very high across much of the national territory, which represents an additional concern for civil protection authorities.

This yellow warning covers almost half of the 18 mainland districts, indicating an adverse weather situation that requires attention from the population.
