Two people died and one remains missing after the flash flood that hit the Grand Canyon in Arizona over the weekend. Heavy monsoon rains triggered a torrent of water, rocks and debris that swept through a popular trail and hit campsites in Bright Angel Canyon and the area near historic Phantom Ranch.

Initially, authorities had reported that more than a dozen people were missing. According to David Black, chief of operations, 82 people were rescued from the canyon. At this time, we know of one missing person, he stated.

The National Park Service (NPS) reported that two bodies had been found and that searches were ongoing. One of the victims was a 46-year-old man whose body was recovered on Sunday.
