Carvalhão Gil worked for 30 years in the Portuguese secret services, at the SIS (Strategic Intelligence Service). During his career in the secret services, he had access to classified and sensitive information of the Portuguese State.
In 2019, he was arrested in Rome by Italian authorities while trying to sell state secrets to Russian agents. This counter-espionage operation involved collaboration between Italian and Portuguese intelligence services, which monitored his activities for some time.
After the judicial process, he was convicted of espionage crimes and ended up being expelled from the SIS. His career in the secret services ended abruptly and dishonorably, resulting in the loss of his status and access to classified information.
After leaving the secret services, Carvalhão Gil ended up working as a TVDE driver, a sector very different from the intelligence activity he carried out for three decades. He retired in May this year, ending a professional life marked by controversy.
