Storms with hail hit at least 173 municipalities in the South region of Brazil in one week, according to data from state Civil Defense agencies. In Rio Grande do Sul, 98 municipalities recorded occurrences, with 86 cases of hail, heavy rain, windstorms and landslides, leaving 33,857 people affected, two deaths, seven injured, 24 homeless and 51 displaced. Santa Catarina and Paraná also recorded severe damage, including roof blow-offs. Seven municipalities in São Paulo also recorded hail occurrences in the same period.

Return of sun and heat from Wednesday onwards

After days of instability and out-of-season rain, Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde will see the return of sun and heat from Wednesday. Maximum temperatures should fluctuate between 24 and 25 degrees until the end of the week, with clear skies, little wind and low cloud cover, increasing the thermal sensation. September begins with the return of heat: temperatures rise up to 8°C above average from Wednesday onwards

After a period with temperatures below average, Portugal is preparing for a significant weather change from Wednesday, September 2. According to the European ECMWF model, maximum temperatures should rise generally, with thermal anomalies up to 8°C above the climatological average. On Thursday, September 3, maximums of 38°C are forecast for Évora and Beja, possibly reaching 40°C in parts of the Alentejo, while Lisbon and Setúbal will record anomalies of 5°C to 8°C above normal. This intense heat should remain until Friday, September 4, from which date a new generalized drop in temperatures is expected.
