10 minutes: house payments rise again in September

SIC Notícias31 August 2026 at 20:57

The house payment is set to rise again for loans that are reviewed this September. This change affects borrowers with variable rate housing loans, whose payment is recalculated periodically according to the interest rates in force.

The increase is due to the rise in interest rates that have been applied by the European Central Bank. Borrowers will feel the impact of this increase on their monthly housing expenses.

This situation comes after a period in which payments had registered stability or even some decrease. Many homeowners thus face a new increased financial effort.

The phenomenon affects thousands of Portuguese families who contracted housing loans and see their financial capacity pressured by these successive increases in monthly payments.
