Housing: rents may rise up to 2.56% next year

TVI Notícias31 August 2026 at 20:42

Next year, housing rents may be increased by up to 2.56%. This rent update applies to rental contracts covered by current legislation.

The rent update is calculated based on the average inflation over the last 12 months. The reference period for this calculation is August of each year, when the maximum applicable update rate is determined.

This mechanism aims to allow landlords to adjust rents according to price developments in the economy, ensuring that the increase keeps pace with the loss of purchasing power caused by accumulated inflation.
