The Directorate-General for the Arts will support 71 artistic projects with approximately 1.885 million euros under the Programming Projects Support call for 2025. The call received 216 applications in total, of which 71 were approved for funding. Of the 145 applications that were left without support, 110 received no funds because the overall available amount was exhausted, seven fell below the required 60% minimum score, and 28 were excluded for other reasons.
Of the supported projects, 47 are in music, 12 in theater, six in dance, four in street arts and two in circus. Geographically, 21 projects from the Centro region stand out, 17 from the Norte and 14 from Greater Lisbon, with representation also from the Algarve, Alentejo, Oeste e Vale do Tejo, Península de Setúbal, Azores and Madeira. Among the examples of supported projects are the A Porta Festival in Leiria, the Semibreve Festival in Braga, Quebrajazz in Coimbra and the Clarão Festival in Sintra.
The call is part of the DGArtes 2025 Project Support Program, which has a total allocation of 13.35 million euros, the same value as in 2023 and 2024. The application deadline was extended until April 2 due to bad weather that affected the artistic sector, especially in the Centro region. Supported projects must be carried out by February 28, 2028 and include hosting, co-productions, artistic residencies, national circulation, creation, internationalization, training and publishing.
Representative organizations of the Culture sector have repeatedly warned about delays in opening DGArtes calls and about its underfunding. Last year, dozens of structures were again left without funding although they were considered eligible, a situation similar to previous years. This year, the results of the Internationalization call have also already been announced, with 115 projects supported and 41 without support due to lack of funds, despite having obtained scores above 60%.
