The mayor of Viana do Castelo, Luís Nobre, announced that the formal process for constructing the road access to the Vale do Neiva industrial zone has been completed, although construction work is not yet finished. In statements at the end of the council meeting, the socialist explained that the municipality will not lose the funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, whose deadline ends today, because all formalities were completed last Friday.
Luís Nobre stated that the Government itself announced that there are formalities within reach of municipalities for the completion of PRR works, including the inspection of the execution level of all works funded by this plan. Should there be works not executed that have been subject to funding, the municipality will be notified to proceed with the respective adjustment.
On 18 August, the City Council of Viana do Castelo approved, by majority, the additional payment of 750 thousand euros for the contract, which includes 433 thousand euros in complementary works and 317 thousand euros to guarantee the financial rebalancing of the municipality. The vote counted with the votes against of the PSD councilors and the councilor of Chega.
The new road, spanning 5.2 kilometres, represents an investment of approximately 11.5 million euros fully funded by the PRR. This road will connect the business and industrial zones of Carvoeiro, Vila de Barroselas, Vila de Punhe and Vila de Alvarães to the A28 motorway junction, eliminating black spots and restricted circulation for heavy vehicles in the parish of Alvarães, improving road safety throughout Vale do Neiva.
