A Russian official, identified as Chekmarev, considered Portugal as "one of the most hostile countries in Europe" in relation to Russia. This statement comes in the context of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Chekmarev based this position on the support that Portugal has been providing to Ukraine, both in terms of political support and participation in the sanctions imposed by European countries on Moscow.

Regarding the incident of a drone that fell near the Portuguese embassy in Russian territory, Chekmarev stated that Russia only attacks military targets, suggesting that the embassy would not have been a deliberate intention.
