Union extends guards' strike at Vale de Judeus prison until end of September

RTP Notícias31 August 2026 at 17:30

The National Prison Guard Corps Union (SNCGP) decided to extend the strike at Vale de Judeus prison, located in Alcoentre, for another month, until the end of September. The decision was made in protest against the lack of security conditions in the prison.

The extended strike action directly affects the functioning of the prison establishment, where prison guards continue to demand improvements in the security conditions they consider essential for carrying out their duties.

The SNCGP represents the prison guards who argue that the current situation at Vale de Judeus prison puts at risk both the safety of the professionals and the inmates. The lack of adequate conditions has been the main point of discord between the union and the authorities.

With this extension, the strike continues until September, maintaining pressure on the responsible entities to take measures that guarantee a safe working environment for the prison guards.
