Fires: Fire in vegetation cuts off IC1 in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém

The Complementary Itinerary 1 (IC1) is closed to traffic near Ermidas-Sado, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, since 17:03 today, due to a fire consuming an area of vegetation. Road traffic is cut off at kilometre 617 of the IC1.

The alert for the fire was given at 16:09. According to the Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of the Alentejo Litoral, the fire started in a vehicle that caught fire, spreading the flames to the vegetation.

Around 17:30, the flames were being fought by 90 operatives, supported by 24 vehicles and seven aerial resources, according to the Civil Protection website.
