The president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, traveled to the Azores to participate in the commemorative ceremonies of the 50 years of the region's constitutional autonomy. The visit takes place over three days, from Wednesday to Friday.
During his stay on the islands, Aguiar-Branco will dedicate part of the official program to the challenges of insularity affecting the Autonomous Region of the Azores. This component of the program reflects the specific concerns of the islands regarding development and territorial cohesion.
The celebrations of the 50 years of the Azores' constitutional autonomy mark a significant date in the political and institutional history of the region, which obtained its autonomy statute in the Portuguese Constitution of 1976, after the revolutionary period.
