The Portuguese State recorded a surplus of 282 million euros until July, a significant reduction of 2,040.1 million euros compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the budget execution synthesis published today by the Budgetary Entity, the former body known as the Directorate-General for Budget.
The decrease in the balance of Public Administrations was mainly due to the evolution of Central Administration, which showed a reduction of 3,500.9 million euros. This figure is partially explained by payments aimed at regularising debts of the National Health Service, and excluding this effect, the reduction in the Central Administration balance was 2,241.2 million euros.
In the first seven months of the year, the surplus of Public Administrations thus stood at 282 million euros, a value substantially lower than the 2,322 million recorded in the same period of last year.
This negative evolution was partially offset by the improvement in the balances of Social Security, which contributed 1,200.9 million euros, Local Administration, with 198 million euros, and Regional Administration, with 62 million euros.
