The president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, travels to the Azores between Wednesday and Friday to participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the region's constitutional autonomy. The visit takes place at the invitation of the president of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores.
During the trip, Aguiar-Branco will dedicate part of the program to the challenges of insularity, a central theme for Portuguese autonomous regions. This commemoration marks five decades since the Azores acquired its constitutional autonomy status.
The visit program includes participation in the official ceremonies of the quinquennial autonomy celebrations. This visit represents institutional recognition by the national Parliament of the Azores' autonomous achievements.
