Met cancels exhibition that honored Galliano

Observador31 August 2026 at 15:38

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York canceled an exhibition that would pay tribute to John Galliano, reversing an earlier decision after a strong wave of criticism. The exhibition was scheduled for May 2027 and was to be considered a form of "acquittal" for the fashion designer.

Galliano was removed from his top position 15 years ago due to a major controversy that marked his career. The museum intended for him to be the centerpiece of the exhibition, once again recognizing his talent in the fashion world.

The decision to hold the exhibition immediately generated outrage, leading to intense public pressure. Faced with widespread criticism, the Met chose to back down and completely cancel the event that would have been dedicated to the designer.
