Vasco spoke out after striker David was targeted in an operation by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo against a criminal organization investigated for involvement with drug and arms trafficking and possible links to a criminal faction. The Rio de Janeiro club stated that it "cooperates with the authorities and awaits the conclusion of the investigations." The information was published by the g1 website.

The warrants were executed on Monday morning at David's apartment in Barra da Tijuca, in the Southwest Zone of Rio, where agents conducted searches, and also at Vasco's Training Center in Jacarepaguá. The operation investigates the group's activities, which have branches in different states.

According to the investigations, possible involvement of other professional athletes and businesspeople with the gang is also being analyzed. In Rio de Janeiro, the operation is coordinated by the 14th Police Station, in Leblon, with support from the General Department of Specialized Police.
