Carneiro says Government is "halfway" to PS being able to look at the Budget

Público31 August 2026 at 14:11

PS leader José Luís Carneiro said the Government is "halfway" to the Socialist Party being able to look at the State Budget. This position comes following a set of conditions that the PS defined for potential budget negotiations.

The Executive will have secured two of the four conditions set by the PS. The first condition met relates to maintaining the pension system unchanged throughout the current legislature.

The second condition accepted by the Government consists of guaranteeing the completion of ongoing works after the end of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, thereby ensuring the continuity of projects already started.

With two of the four conditions already met, budget negotiations appear to be closer, although the remaining requirements that the PS considers essential to make the State Budget viable still remain to be defined.

Gavião City Council Issues Negative Opinion on Endesa Photovoltaic Project

The Municipal Council of Gavião, in the Portalegre district, issued an unfavorable opinion on the photovoltaic and wind project presented by Endesa, considering that it could cause extremely negative impacts on the territory. The project, which includes a 220 kV power line and a substation near a village, is associated with the reconversion of the former Pego Thermoelectric Power Plant, in Abrantes. The president of the municipality, António Severino, points out that the municipality already has 400 hectares classified as park area, of which 80 hectares are occupied by solar panels, arguing that there must be a balance between territories. The mayor fears that the project will contribute to the desertification and abandonment of the villages in the region.
