Setúbal included in new IHRU competition for affordable rental homes

SAPO31 August 2026 at 12:54

The Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) has opened a new competition that includes the municipality of Setúbal in the affordable rental housing program. The competition puts 77 housing units up for offer, distributed across 19 municipalities in the country.

This program aims to provide lower-cost housing for the population, enabling access to homes under more financially accessible conditions than those practiced in the private rental market.

The IHRU competition thus covers the Setúbal territory, integrating Setúbal into the list of municipalities that benefit from this initiative to promote housing at affordable prices. Interested parties can apply for the housing made available through this program.

House rents can increase up to 2.56% in 2027

Landlords in Portugal may increase rents by up to 2.56% from January 2027, according to the rapid estimate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This value represents a slight increase compared to the 2.24% allowed for 2026, reflecting an August inflation of 3.3%. The INE explains that the acceleration of the CPI is mainly due to the increase in fuel prices, with energy products registering a variation of 12.2% and unprocessed food products of 3.4%. The underlying inflation indicator was set at 2.7% in August.
