A subtropical air mass is approaching mainland Portugal, causing a significant rise in temperatures in the first days of September. The peak of the heat is forecast for Thursday, September 3, with temperatures that could reach values of up to 42°C.
This hot weather episode will especially affect some regions of mainland Portugal between Wednesday, September 2, and Friday, September 4. Maximum temperatures equal to or above 40°C are forecast in various areas of the country, as well as tropical nights.
This event comes after a week of cool weather with clearly autumnal characteristics, caused by the arrival of a maritime polar air mass. The new air mass that is now approaching is very hot for the time of year and will form a new heat dome over the region.
The phenomenon will be short-lived, although the weather pattern is similar to what recently affected Western Europe. It is a localized episode that will not occur throughout the entire territory.
