The transfer of Alverca do Ribatejo's Citizen Space to the Citizen Shop installed in the Auchan building, in the Verdelha area, is generating strong protest on social media. The change, which took effect this Monday, is criticized for the loss of proximity of public services in a city with thousands of inhabitants, with particular impact on populations with greater mobility difficulties. The former CDU councilor Nuno Libório considered that public investments in Auchan's private sector cannot override the needs of the people. The Municipal Council justifies the change with the extension of service hours and the concentration of Local and Central Administration services in a single space, also arguing proximity to public transport and availability of parking. The decision, which is not new, was already foreseen in the Citizen Shop's application to the Recovery and Resilience Plan, with the CDU contesting the location since 2022, defending alternatives in public heritage closer to the urban center.
