A hundred years ago, an earthquake occurred on the island of Faial that caused nine deaths and more than 200 injured. The seismic tremor also caused damage to 4,138 houses, as well as convents and churches in the region. The event occurred exactly 100 years ago and left a significant trail of destruction on the Azorean island. This earthquake remains one of the most tragic episodes in the seismic history of Faial, deeply marking the local community a century ago.
