Property owners with IMI above 500 euros have until today to pay the 2nd installment

RTP Notícias31 August 2026 at 08:30

Property owners whose annual IMI value exceeds 500 euros have until the end of today to pay the second installment of the tax to the Tax Authority. This obligation applies only to taxpayers whose annual tax exceeds this minimum threshold.

The payment must be made through the official channels of the Tax and Customs Authority, and can be done online, at multibanco machines, or at the tax offices themselves. Owners must ensure that the amount is paid within the deadline to avoid penalties.

This second installment refers to the phased payment of IMI that is collected annually from property owners in Portugal. The tax is levied on the property's assessed value and varies according to rates set by each municipality.

Taxpayers who fail to meet the payment deadline are subject to interest, fines, and other tax sanctions, and may also have their names included on the list of tax debtors.
