Trump wants Venezuelan crude in US reserves. What is known about the "biggest agreement" in history

Jornal de Negócios30 August 2026 at 18:43

The US Administration and an unidentified private operator in Venezuela formed a new company that received rights to untapped oil fields for 100 years. The agreement was announced as the "biggest agreement" in history between the two countries.

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, but the country's production has dropped dramatically in recent years due to international sanctions, mismanagement, and insufficient investment. This agreement comes at a time when the US is seeking to diversify its energy sources.

The specific terms of the agreement have not yet been fully disclosed, but the measure represents a significant shift in the relationship between the two countries in the energy sector. The private operator involved in the partnership has not been revealed.

The Trump administration argues that this agreement could bring significant economic benefits to both countries and strengthen US energy security. Venezuela has not yet officially commented on the details of the agreement.

Ramiro retired with 43 years of contributions: "They penalized me 24% on my pension, that's 53,900 euros over 11 years"

A Spaniard named Ramiro de Heras retired with 43 years of contributions and denounces having suffered a 24% penalty on his pension, which, according to his calculations, results in an accumulated loss of approximately 53,900 euros over 11 years. Spanish legislation applies reduction coefficients to those who retire before the ordinary age, even with long contributory careers, and this reduction accompanies the pension indefinitely. Although Congress approved a motion in November 2025 to exempt from penalties those with at least 40 years of contributions, the law was not changed. The association ASJUBI40 has been running simulations to demonstrate the financial impact of these reductions. In Portugal, there is also no automatic elimination of cuts for those with more than 40 years of contributions, although there is a specific regime for very long careers that allows retirement without penalty from age 60 for those with at least 48 civil years of contributions.

"R$ 6 billion contribution to Correios will give state-owned company greater 'stability,' government says"

The Lula government confirmed it will include a R$ 6 billion contribution to Correios in the 2027 annual budget bill (PLOA). In a joint statement, the ministers of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho; Management and Innovation, Esther Dweck; and Planning, Bruno Moretti, said the goal is to give the state-owned company greater stability for negotiating with clients and suppliers, toward restructuring and recovering positive financial results. The state-owned company had already obtained a R$ 12 billion loan from banks last year, with Treasury support, to settle delayed payments, yet still recorded a loss of R$ 8.5 billion.
