The Lula government confirmed on Sunday that it included a provision for a R$ 6 billion contribution to Correios' treasury in the 2027 annual budget bill, to be sent to Congress on Monday. In a joint statement, the ministers of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho; Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck; and Planning, Bruno Moretti, said the objective is to provide stability for the company.
The contribution is provided for in the contract of the R$ 12 billion loan the state-owned company took out last year. According to the statement, with this, Correios will have greater stability to continue negotiating with clients and suppliers, toward the proper progress of the Restructuring Plan and recovery of the company's positive financial results.
At the turn of the year, the state-owned company had the support of the National Treasury to obtain a R$ 12 billion bank loan, intended to regularize delayed payments. Even so, the company recorded a loss of R$ 8.5 billion.
