The municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros filed a complaint against people who used metal detectors at the Azibo river beach. The complaint was filed with the competent authorities to investigate the case.
The use of metal detectors on river or sea beaches, forests or fields is not permitted without express authorization from the Ministry of Culture. This activity is regulated by Portuguese legislation relating to archaeological heritage.
The Azibo beach is a river beach located in the district of Bragança, in the Trás-os-Montes region. The case drew the attention of local authorities due to the heritage sensitivity of the area.
The authorities are investigating the circumstances in which the metal detectors were used on the beach, verifying whether the suspects had the necessary authorizations or whether they acted in violation of the law.
