A ferry with more than 260 passengers on board wrecked this Saturday off the northern coast of Cyprus, causing at least six dead. The accident occurred when the vessel was making a crossing with a high number of people.
The northern region of Cyprus, which is controlled by the Turkish-Cypriot administration, was the location where the rescue operations for the victims are taking place. Local authorities are coordinating the efforts to rescue survivors and recover more victims from the wreck.
The number of fatalities may increase, as there are still missing people and others who may have been trapped inside the sunken ferry. Rescue operations continue to be carried out in the coastal waters of the northern area of the island.
