Approximately 11 hectares of eucalyptus and scrubland were consumed by the wildfire that broke out on Saturday night at the Furneira site, in the Strait of Câmara de Lobos. The fire came close to threatening several homes in the area, according to estimates from the municipal protection service.
The Judicial Police is investigating the causes of the incident, at a time when suspicions of arson are being raised. The presence of inspectors at the scene of operations was confirmed by the Regional Service.
