Although 87% of registered users have an assigned family doctor, more than 1.36 million people continue to await the designation of a clinician. This gap affects a significant portion of the population that depends exclusively on the NHS for primary healthcare.
The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has the lowest family doctor coverage rate in the country. This situation contributes decisively to the national numbers of users without an assigned doctor, aggravating the difficulties in accessing healthcare in the most populous region of Portugal.
