The Mozambican State Council decided to suspend Venâncio Mondlane's immunity, thus allowing the continuation of the criminal proceedings pending in the Supreme Court. This decision was made after the announcement of the trial notification.
The suspension of immunity is related to the post-election demonstrations that occurred in Mozambique. Mondlane faced procedural impediments due to his immunity status, which has now been revoked by the State Council.
The decision allows the criminal proceedings against Mondlane to proceed normally in the Supreme Court, where the case was pending precisely because of the legal protections the politician possessed.
