Folklore brings together Macaronesia islands in Machico

The Folklore Gathering brings together the islands of Macaronesia in Machico, Madeira. The event takes place on Sunday at Largo da Praça, bringing together traditional groups from the various territories that make up Macaronesia, including the Azores, Madeira, the Canaries, and Cape Verde.

This folklore gathering aims to promote the sharing of cultural traditions among the islands of the region, celebrating the similarities and differences of the popular manifestations of each territory. Dance and traditional music groups will perform at the gathering, showcasing the characteristic customs of their respective islands.

Machico, one of the main cities on the island of Madeira, thus hosts this event that aims to strengthen cultural ties between the communities of Macaronesia. Largo da Praça serves as the stage for the performances of the participating groups, on a Sunday dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the intangible heritage of these islands.

Folklore returns to Azambuja on September 5th

Azambuja hosts on September 5th the fifth edition of the "Folklore Comes to Town" festival, organized by the Rancho Folclórico Ceifeiras e Campinos de Azambuja. The event includes a parade departing at 9 PM from the Parish Council, followed by a festival in the Urban Garden with four folk groups from different regions of the country, namely from Ribatejo, Douro Litoral, Leiria, and Algarve. The evening will be dedicated to traditions, music, dance, and Portuguese folk costumes, with a prior dinner at 7 PM at the Secondary School of Azambuja.

From Sapucaí to Macapá: Beija-Flor's battery director takes command of Piratão

Diego Oliveira, who has been working for ten years in Beija-Flor's battery, five as director, has just taken command of Piratão's battery, Piratas da Batucada samba school, in Macapá, Amapá. He will work alongside master Buda, who was already part of the school, and will bring his assistant Allec for the new challenge towards Carnival 2027. The invitation came through a member of the school itself, and Diego sees the opportunity to share his experience built in Rio Carnival without setting aside the musical identity of Amapá's Carnival.
