Dog daycare owners in Botafogo indicted for animal cruelty

extra15 September 2026 at 19:18

The Civil Police indicted the owners of a dog daycare and boarding facility called Pitucos da Lu, located on Rua Doutor Sousa Lopes, in Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, for animal cruelty. The investigation is being conducted by Delegate Natália Calisman, from the 10th Police Station (Botafogo). The couple responsible for the establishment was called twice to give testimony but did not show up.

The case came to light earlier this month, after a former employee presented videos, audio recordings, and messages to the police that, according to him, document situations of animal cruelty at the establishment. Pet owners also provided reports about what they claim to have witnessed at the daycare.

According to the investigation, the videos added to the procedure show situations of animal cruelty in which the animals were chained. The information was released by RJTV, from TV Globo, on Tuesday (15).

Why this matters

Pet owners in the Botafogo area need to be vigilant about the quality of daycare and boarding services they hire. The indictment demonstrates that animal cruelty investigations are progressing in Rio and that reports from former employees can lead to accountability. The case also underscores the importance of researching an establishment's reputation before entrusting your pet to third parties.
