The Aedes albopictus mosquito, transmitter of diseases such as dengue and zika, has been detected in Castelo Branco. This is a significant discovery for Portuguese public health authorities.
The Aedes albopictus is characterized by its dark color, having a white stripe along the head and upper part of the thorax. The mosquito also presents a distinct pattern of white and black stripes on the trunk and legs, which allows for its visual identification.
