The Festival Cordas, which takes place in Madalena, on the island of Pico, will present the solo debut of Pico island musician Orlando Martins. The performance is scheduled for October 3rd at 20:00 local time, which corresponds to 21:00 in Lisbon.

Orlando Martins is a musician native to the island of Pico with more than three decades of experience in accompanying folk groups, tunas, and bands of various formations. This will be the first time he takes the stage alone, a moment that represents a significant change in his musical career.

The festival has been promoting various artists and musical formations, creating a space dedicated to music and strings in the Azores region. The choice of Madalena as the location for this debut reinforces the event's commitment to local artists and to the enhancement of the island's musical culture.

Why this matters

Readers in the Azores region, particularly on the island of Pico, now have the opportunity to attend the solo debut of a local musician with over 30 years of career, after a lifetime dedicated to traditional music. This is a significant cultural milestone for the Pico community and for the festival participants.
