The Government of São Paulo confirmed on Tuesday (15) five municipalities in a state of emergency after the heavy rains that hit the State since Friday (11). The homologation recognizes, at the state level, the abnormal situation faced by the municipalities of Registro, Ribeira, Iporanga, Barra do Turvo and Piracaia. The action aims to expedite response and recovery measures in the affected areas, as well as allow the advancement of necessary procedures for support to the impacted cities through state resource transfers.
Municipalities in the Vale do Ribeira, one of the most affected regions, have already received more than 3,500 humanitarian aid items such as mattresses, food baskets and hygiene kits. A total of 148 families were left homeless and 19 shelters were set up in the region, 11 of them in Eldorado, the most impacted city.
The forecast is for a significant reduction in rain on Tuesday (15), but rivers continue with elevated levels.
