Rico Melquiades says he is facing threats after being investigated for electoral coercion: 'I only leave home with security'

oglobo15 September 2026 at 14:11

Digital influencer Rico Melquiades, winner of the 13th edition of reality show A Fazenda, is being investigated by the Electoral Public Ministry of Alagoas (MPE) for suspected electoral coercion. The investigation began after the publication of a video in which he questions four women, presented as his employees, about who pays their salaries and their party preferences.

In the video, Melquiades asks one of the workers, identified as Manuela, if she will vote for the Workers' Party (PT). Then, he repeatedly states that she will be fired if she votes for the party, saying: "I don't want any PT supporters in here. Are you PT, Manuela? Answer. Are you going to be PT, Manuela? You're fired. Bring your ID. Get out of here, okay?"

A day after the investigative procedure was opened by the MPE, Rico Melquiades posted a new video on social media in which he claims he is "being threatened" and that he "will only leave home with security guards." The case is now proceeding in the electoral sphere, which is investigating the possible practice of coercion in the context of the elections.

Why this matters

The case occurs amid the electoral race in Alagoas and is concerning because it involves a digital influencer with large reach using his position to pressure employees to reveal and possibly change their votes, which may constitute an electoral crime. The MPE investigation may result in sanctions against Rico Melquiades, and the episode reignites the debate about the limits of free speech and the protection of workers' secret ballot.

STF begins unprecedented trial on Vorcaro's messages to Moraes

The Federal Supreme Court began on Tuesday the historic trial of the investigation into alleged messages exchanged between banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, and Minister Alexandre de Moraes on the eve of his first arrest, in November 2025. The case is unprecedented for involving a member of the Court itself and was triggered by a Federal Police report prepared by order of Minister André Mendonça, rapporteur of the investigations related to Banco Master, which ended up generating a succession of decisions, official letters and accusations among members of the court, in addition to involving the Federal Police itself, the PGR and the AGU. The president of the STF, Edson Fachin, ended up taking over the conduct of the case.
