23-Year-Old Mayor Faces Impeachment After Sexual Scandal and Improper Spending Allegations

extra15 September 2026 at 14:37

Jayden Williams, 23 years old, was the youngest mayor in Georgia's history, losing his office just 10 months after taking command of the Stockbridge city hall, a city near Atlanta. He was sworn in in January and faced impeachment after approval by the City Council. The city officially confirmed the decision in a statement: "The mayor has been removed."

The investigations that led to the impeachment indicate that Jayden Williams spent more than $4,000 (approximately R$20,000) from the municipal corporate card on personal expenses. Among the improper expenditures are restaurant meals, clothing, haircuts, and movie tickets.

In addition to the improper use of public funds, the young mayor is also accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages with an 18-year-old high school student. Fox 5 Atlanta conducted the investigations that formed the basis for the impeachment proceedings.

The Stockbridge City Council approved formal measures to remove the mayor, ending prematurely the term of the politician who had made history in the state by becoming the youngest mayor in Georgia.
