INSS issues new warning about life proof scam

extra15 September 2026 at 13:59

The National Social Security Institute (INSS) has once again warned retirees and pension beneficiaries about scammers targeting the life proof requirement. Criminals continue sending text messages requesting that citizens update their registrations, threatening benefit cuts if they do not provide their personal information.

The life proof is currently performed automatically by INSS through data cross-referencing between federal government systems. Communication through official channels only occurs when the insured person does not have updated information in these government records.

Everything is done via the Meu INSS app or website, or via Gov.br message with a blue verified account signal. Any need for life proof is also informed through the banking service terminal. INSS does not send employees to the beneficiary's home, nor does it request passwords, banking information, or money transfers.

Why this matters

Retired individuals and pension beneficiaries of INSS are the public directly affected by these scams, which can result in theft of personal and financial data. The warning is relevant because it clarifies the agency's legitimate communication channels, alerting the population about practices that INSS never adopts and reducing the risk of fraud.
