The Victor Valley High School football team in California was suspended for one week after an unsportsmanlike celebration during the traditional Bell Game against rival team Apple Valley High School. The game took place on Friday (11), and Victor Valley won 20-7, according to KTLA 5.
During the celebration, players and the school mascot, Jackrabbit, were filmed making obscene gestures, including flipping the bird, toward the stands where opposing fans were seated. One of the videos also shows mascot Jackrabbit knocking down Apple Valley's mascot, a red apple, in front of the fans.
The superintendent of Victor Valley Union High School District, Carl Coles, commented on the case. The one-week suspension was imposed as punishment for the conduct of the players and mascot during the event.
