The Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) launched an operation on Tuesday executing three search warrants against suspects investigated for allegedly forming a militia and extorting money from residents of a residential complex in Itaboraí, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio. Agents executed the warrants at the suspects' private security company and at their residential addresses.
During the operation, mobile phones, notebooks, USB drives, and documents from the suspects' private security company were seized. The MPRJ teams acted at multiple locations to collect evidence of the criminal activity.
The investigations began after anonymous reports submitted to MPRJ alleging that a building manager of the complex was coerced by armed men to hire the suspects' company for private security services. Before the alleged coercion, the amounts were paid directly to the security guards.
