The newspaper O GLOBO created a series called "Healthcare in the Elections," inviting five doctors from different specialties to discuss the major challenges that the next president of Brazil will face in the healthcare sector. The series premiered on September 1st with the first participation of intensivist and cardiologist Ludhmila Hajjar, who pointed out gaps in high-complexity medicine, including surgeries, cutting-edge treatments, and the use of artificial intelligence in both the public and private health systems.
In the second part of the series, it is surgeon Ben-Hur Ferraz Neto's turn to contribute to the debate. The doctor addresses the responsibility of balancing the financial sustainability of health insurance operators with their obligations to guarantee full patient access to health services.
Ferraz Neto also highlights that population aging is already exerting growing pressure on the costs of the supplementary health system, creating a challenging scenario for operators who seek to maintain financial equilibrium without compromising the quality of care for beneficiaries.
