The general secretary of the Federation of Public Administration Trade Unions (Fesap), José Abraão, argued that the remuneration base in the public sector should continue to be increased, moving away from the national minimum salary, considering that the current 934.99 euros are insufficient. The concrete values of the claims will be announced at a press conference at Fesap's headquarters in Lisbon, where the claims document for 2027 will be presented.
José Abraão argued that the pluriannual agreement on public administration worker valorization, reinforced last year, is an agreement of "minimums" signed in a different economic context. The official warned that inflation could exceed 3% this year, which would cause losses in purchasing power, given the agreement in force which provides for salary increases of 2.3%, with a minimum of 60.52 euros.
If the agreement is fulfilled, the remuneration base will rise to 995.51 euros in 2027, but Fesap intends to go beyond the planned amount. When asked if they will demand an increase exceeding 95 euros that would place the BRAP above 1,030 euros, the general secretary stated that it is "guaranteed", considering that even 1,030 euros would be "insufficient and short given what workers' needs are today and fundamentally to retain staff".
Regarding the meal allowance, currently at 6.15 euros with planned increases of 15 cents per year until 2029, José Abraão admitted asking the Government to go further. The official also recalled that the current agreement provides for a clause that allows reassessment of values during the annual collective bargaining process, which generally takes place from September or October.
