Two forest fires that broke out in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, in the district of Castelo Branco, are mobilizing more than 800 firefighters to combat the flames. The two fires are burning simultaneously and represent one of the largest wildfire response operations currently underway in the country.
The first fire began at 4:05 PM on Monday, affecting the parishes of Alvito da Beira and Sobreira Formosa. This fire triggered the immediate deployment of firefighting resources, which have been working to limit the spread of the flames.
The second fire started at 7:26 PM on the same day, in the area of Atalaia. The nearly simultaneous start of the two fires, separated by just a few hours, increased the complexity of the combat operation and required a significant reinforcement of human and material resources on the ground.
The deployed resources include more than 800 firefighters, supported by multiple firefighting vehicles and aerial means, working to contain both fires that remain active in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova.
