Over 800 operatives were fighting at 07:30 today two rural fires in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, in the district of Castelo Branco. The information was provided by the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
The two fires were burning simultaneously in the same municipality in Beira Baixa, requiring a large firefighting deployment. The number of mobilized firefighters exceeded 800 operatives.
ANEPC, as the entity responsible for coordinating the emergency response in Portugal, confirmed the data regarding the deployment on the ground. The 07:30 time indicates that the fires had already been burning for several hours.
Proença-a-Nova is a municipality in central inland Portugal, known for its significant forest area, which makes it vulnerable to rural fires, especially during the summer months.
