César Mattar, 71 years old, is being investigated again by the São Paulo Civil Police after spending less than three months in prison in Tremembé. The elderly man is accused of applying the so-called "love scam," a scheme in which he uses romantic relationships to apply financial scams on his victims.
The new victim is a 65-year-old retired teacher, who claims to have lost about R$ 100 thousand in just 40 days of a relationship with Mattar. She is trying to recover the money in court, while the police investigate the case.
The retired teacher met Mattar on Tinder in early June of this year. After a few days of chatting on WhatsApp, he invited her to lunch at a restaurant at Mirante de São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo. On that occasion, he introduced himself only as César and said he was an importer, rancher and owner of several franchises, in addition to having lived in Miami and Canada.
Mattar had previously been investigated for applying the same type of scam on members of an elite club in São Paulo, who reportedly lost more than R$ 600 thousand. According to previous investigations, he remained active on dating apps such as Happn, through which he attracted his victims.
